Story:
Hiroki Kanazawa, born in 1987, is the sixth generation of the renowned Kanazawa family at Maruo kiln, a historic ceramic studio in Amakusa City, Kumamoto Prefecture, with over 200 years of tradition. Beginning his journey as a ceramicist at 18, Hiroki sought to create distinctive pieces that stand out from his family's traditional work.
Hiroki's unique finishes—including iron-like glaze, silver glaze, and fluffy glaze—were serendipitously discovered when his younger brother accidentally mixed the wrong ingredients. Alongside his two brothers, Hiroki continues to craft both classic and innovative pieces at their family kiln.
