Yasuo Fukuzaki, born in 1941, initially worked at the city hall in his hometown of Tsunagi-town in Kumamoto prefecture before delving into the craft of bamboo. On a business trip, I had the privilege to visit Yasuo through a connection with a friend in Kumamoto. Since Yasuo doesn't use email or accept calls from strangers, my friend penned a letter of introduction on my behalf.
Yasuo personally sources bamboo from his neighbor's land, meticulously preparing it by boiling for days to remove oil, soaking it, drying, dyeing, and finely slicing it into strings for weaving. Remarkably, Yasuo undertakes all these intricate processes all by oneself!
