Story: Founded in 1919 in Fukuoka Prefecture, Ikeda Kasuri Kobo has spent nearly a century mastering natural indigo dyeing and hand weaving. The Ikeda family crafts each piece with care, honoring traditional methods in the scenic Chikugo River region.
Collaborating with local weavers and craftsmen, they focus on the rich heritage of Kurume Kasuri, maintaining their commitment to natural materials. Under the guidance of the third generation, Mitsumasa, and the fourth generation, Daigo, a dedicated team of artisans creates unique fabrics. Their hand-woven textiles showcase distinctive "shift" and "smudge" patterns that cannot be replicated by machines.
Commitment to the Future: While the number of weavers in the Fukuoka region has declined from 120 to just 20 companies, the Ikeda family strives to preserve this craft by sharing their expertise and overcoming challenges together. Through careful creation, they aim to sustain this tradition and explore new possibilities for the future, ensuring the legacy of Ikeda Kasuri thrives.
