Paper Mache Doll - Ranchu Goldfish on a cart!

$65.00

The Uto Hariko Paper Mache Doll is a beautiful tradition that dates back to the late Edo period. Initially passed down to the Sakamoto family, the craft was perfected by Katsu Sakamoto over 70 years. Today, third-generation artisan Rumiko Yamamoto continues this legacy, creating each doll by hand using traditional washi paper and wooden molds passed down through generations.

This handmade paper mache ornament features a charming ranchu goldfish riding on a little cart. In Japan, ranchu goldfish are cherished as symbols of good fortune, making this playful piece both decorative and auspicious. A delightful touch of tradition for your home.

Each doll blends heritage with Rumiko’s creative touch, resulting in unique, handcrafted pieces that honor the past while embracing innovation. I’m proud to offer a selection of these exquisite dolls, each a work of timeless artistry.
