The clay “menko” were originally made as children’s toys. With a history spanning over 1,300 years, these pieces are handcrafted by seventh-generation artisan Reizo Nagata and his daughter, Sae. Using local red soil, they process the clay in their backyard and hand-form each doll without molds.

Story:
It has been said the origin of this Dangozaru doll was 1300 years ago. Currently 7th generation of Reizo Nagata and his daughter are making these monkey clay dolls by hand. They use local red soil, process them into clay in their backyard and hand build each dolls without using molds.
