Story:

Fumoto Kiln holds a special place in my heart. The plates I bought there were my very first purchases for myself in my early 20s, making them even more memorable. Founded in 1965 by Taishu Inoue, Fumoto Kiln is now run by him and his son Naoyuki in Arao City, Kumamoto Prefecture, a town with over 400 years of ceramic history, particularly known for its shodai-yaki. The Inoue family, like others in the area, preserves traditional shodai-yaki techniques, resulting in beautifully crafted pieces that showcase a stunning snow-white color from straw ash glaze.

What makes Fumoto Kiln unique is Naoyuki's innovative approach. By incorporating 18th-century English slipware techniques into their traditional practices, he creates modern patterns that add a distinctive flair to their dishes. I truly enjoy using his slipware; each piece feels special and carries a blend of history and creativity.
