Takubo Straw Decoration - "Tsuto"

By Takubo

$175.00

“Tsuto” is an old Japanese form of wrapping, traditionally made by bundling and weaving rice straw around food or other precious contents. This straw decoration by Warazaiku Takubo takes its form from this humble object of everyday life — a beautiful reminder of an earlier Japanese culture of wrapping, carrying and caring for things using materials close at hand.

In Japan, rice straw has also long been connected with wishes for an abundant harvest and the wellbeing of the home. Takubo carries these traditions into objects made for contemporary life.

Each piece is handmade in Hinokage, Miyazaki, where Takubo grows and harvests its own rice straw before crafting it by hand.
